In accordance with the CSAWUZ constitution, the union is mandated to do the following:

  • To seek for and safeguard reasonable salaries and conditions of employment and service;
  • To improve the standards and status of its members;
  • To encourage sympathy and understanding between the employees and their employers;
  • To mediate in disputes between the employees and their employers, between one member and another, and between members and other workers so as to secure an amicable settlement whenever possible;
  • To co-operate with other Trade Unions;
  • To provide members with financial assistance during prolonged and unpaid sick leave as determined by the Staff Affairs Committee from time to time;
  • To advance members’ education through workers education programmes;
  • To encourage members’ participation in national development programmes;
  • To do all such other lawful things as are related to or lead to the achievements of all the above subjects or any one of them;
  • To promote gender equality and enhance women participation in decision making processes; and
  • To promote the participation of young workers in decision making processes.
